NEXT time you struggle to afford a new kitchen or a replacement carpet, try ringing up your town hall and ask them to pay for it. My guess is they'll tell you where to go. So why should asylum seekers be treated any different?

It defies belief that the system taxes us and pilfers our cash at every opportunity— then lavishes it on handouts for people who have just arrived in the country. The only thing my local council has ever given me is a parking ticket — and it makes me angry. But you can't blame asylum seekers. The political cretins who encourage them to come here and allow this obscene abuse of public funds are the culprits.

I have read most of the opinions regarding asylum seekers. Proud to be one of the so called "asylum seekers" who came to this country for all good causes. I am grateful for UK's generous hospitalities for the asylum community, and would like to pass my atmost gratitude. It is extremely important to live in love and harmony. If all people understand the value of humanity the world will be a much better place. We all have reasons when fleeing our place of birth. It is not anyone's wish to be born in a place and life is very short to waste it with nittty gritty thoughts. In my believe the most precious resource for any development is human knowledge. I will also appreciate if we put statstical figures on the asylum to total popn ratio. Most of the views are on what the country paid to the asylum community, Does anyone of you ask how much this country benefited from the called "asylum seekers"? yes i know exactly what you lot are saying.It is a shambolic country run by a bunch of you lot know.Anyhow i know my self that immigrants get everything they want.I come from huddersfield and i am being honest here you go to town and every single street is full of them with bags.I am born here i work i pay tax i look after my family and i cant go out to buy the latest phone the latest car the latest pants every week.If i want new things i need to save but it seems these people who have never paid in to the system or even lived here get a car new phone new cloths for absolutly nothing.Now lets talk about the housing.Now last year i was made homeless and had to move back to my parents house which ran out after 3 months i told the council i was homeless and staying here and there sometimes even littraley sleeping on park benches guess how long it took them to find me as place in a rundown area 6 months.Now throuh out the 6 months i was seeing asylum seekers being allocated housing in huddersfield when i asked why all i got was they are priority WHAT.Im homeless sleeping rough got a little son and im not priorty i found that discusting still to this day i do.It really gets to me still every time i see one it reminds me that our gov is more botherd about taking time to look after these which is a good thing for the minority and obvs our gov cares BUT NOT ABOUT US WHO PAY THEM TO SIT ON THERE ARSES GETTING A LARGE SUM OF MONEY.Once again i must say this during that time i got offerd a flat in a druggie area about 10 miles from my family friends and son now would that get to u?

Living in swansea where so many immigrants are getting homes, and free furniture, and nearly everything they want, their attitudes are not gratefull but more rude and and demanding.

l feel there is a lull before a storm, because for the local tax payer there is no social housing and much less help in many other social care areas. There is a feeling of being taken over, and l cannot understand the goverment bodies that have no fore sight that this problem will esculate into a maybe fullgrown racial riot of some sort.

Some of the immigrants who are not in the category l mentioned will suffer, and who is to blame. I am very disappointed to read the comments by the so called British about the immigrants. The big trouble comes from colonialism, of which most of these writers seem to forget. Most of the third world countries wealth is still being plundered by the West.More than 50% of the companies in Africa are British owned, they extra raw materials to fund British companies, without repatriating back the profits. In Nottingham we had an old building rebuilt with cameras and large metal gates when the locals went to ask the builders what it was they were told to go it was Government property and to get off of the land, we have since found out it is a centre for distribution of furniture and household goods all free just like Rochdale, it now has a Company Name board outside to disguise it.
I have also found out they are getting payment of £5000 each for a CAR as they get lost on Public Transport, not just in Nottingham but Country wide,a person from Hertfordshire that I met sold his car and the Asylum Seeker came with a Government Cheque from the Telephone number on the cheque he was told it was instant cash, 6 Asylum Seekers in Nottingham clubbed together and bought a brand new Mercedes. I have written to John Reid 12th February 2007 when he was Home Secretary, the present Home Secretary Jacqui Smith 4th July 2007 and the Shadow Home Secretaty David Davis 18th July 2007 without a reply from any of them, if this was not true I think I would have got a reply or even a knock on the door.

when I read your article in the paper on sunday it made me so angry! I actually work for rochdale council, and also pay council tax to them, but my job is under threat due to the councils cost cutting and penny pinching measures. I am employed as a home support worker, helping to care for the elderly, disabled and terminally ill in their own homes, these are the most vunerable members of our community,people who should be treated with the respect they deserve in the latter stages of life, but now rochdale council is jeopardising that by privatising care services in the borough. Hi all Im Dave, Iv just got out of the british army after serving 13 years for the Queen and Country. In that time time i served in Various place's including Iraq and Kosovo.

Once I gave my notice to get out of the Army, I put my self on 2 North West housing waiting list, with the promise that under the circumstance's I would become a priority, Iv now been on the list for over a year now,and having spent the best part of 8 months living out of a bag, and at several different family memebers house's I have got the british legion involved and still i have no priorty over the Asylum Seekers, Iv also learnt, that if a crimianl come's out of prison, they get re-housed before i do.

What kind of goverment operate this country, Should i go out mug an old lady and get put in jail???? If my sums are right, I would get a house quicker that way, After all, All i am is an honest bloke, who doesnt earn much, but enogh to live and get by, what does queen and country mean now???

I left the U.K. 16 years ago for Australia because I was being treated by any authority I had any dealings with, as a 2nd class nobody solely because of being British. I couldn't find a landlord to rent to me in central London solely because of being British but my partner of that time had no problem so that's how I was able to rent in the end,despite my partner at that time not being a permanent resident!!
Now, I have a beautiful home in a wonderful area of Melbourne, a successful business and a great lifestyle. this would never have been possible if I had stayed in the U.K.

I live in Rochdale and the place is now a mess. There are hundreds of Africans all in nice clothes without a care in the world. I live in a house owned by a housing association, I have had a leaking toilet for over a year, loose taps in bathroom and kitchen which leak, poor quality/drafty windows, and I have to pay to live in this house,

I have asked if i may do the repairs at my own expense to no avail and no effort on the associations part are they doing anything about it, why should there sort get to live in better accomadation than someone who works 40+ hours a week, pays taxes and national insurance,

Refugees fleeing danger are required to seek asylum in the nearest safe country. Since all of the so called asylum seekers coming to the UK have travelled from Africa, Asia, the middle East or South America then they have all travelled across about a dozen safe countries to get here. They are economic migrants plain and simple.

Britain is horribly over crowded as it is, we can't take more people. If you care so much then donate your money to charities that help these people in their home countries.

I'm horrified by some of the comments left and still think there is a lot of racism (BNP please!!) out there to which I’m stunned as I consider myself to be British.

My parents were refuges from a Spanish speaking country in the mid 70's yet they weren't given any help other than a translator who was paid handsomely for his time.

Both my parents were in their early 20's which under the strain of living in a new country in the middle of nowhere in Sheffield divorced a few years later yet neither one scrounged off the state.

Both my mother and father worked. My mother was a seamstress and father washed dish's for a prestige’s restaurant in Knightsbridge whilst both studying, yet I’m horrified at what today is being given out to new asylum seekers to which upon my parents reading the article were disgusted as they never got such treatment when they first arrived to the UK all they got was a translator who took them to the job centre to get jobs the following week!!

My parents drummed into us, my sister and me, the fact that education is power and that we must learn and move on in order to give our kids a better future.

Because of my parents teachings I have never signed on, I’m now 30 and work for a very well known company with a very decent wage but would like to ask why my husband and I are still forced to work extra hours to keep up with inflation and pay for those on the dole whether they be immigrants or white British who quite frankly can’t be bothered to get a jobs!!

I can supply details to the DWP of more than a dozen lazy British youngsters in there early 20’s who can’t be bothered yet they drive around in J and K reg cars with there girlfriends hanging out the window’s in my town centre.

They drive around wasting petrol most days and park in the centre swearing and frighten people whilst out shopping.

I was told nothing could be done till the day of my eviction, so on that day (Wednesday) i went again to thier offices this time to be told that the homeless officer wouldnt be seeing anyone till the following monday.

I myself am from Rochdale, and this is the absolute truth: Last Tuesday a girl from the top of our street had her home reposessed. It had been a struggle to pay the mortgage since her husband left her a few years ago. Eventually, she lost the battle, after losing her job a few months ago.

She went to Rochdale Council, last Tuesday, she had approached them before but they said come back on the day of eviction. Was she given a nice furnished flat?

Of course not, she's white and British. Both her and her fourteen year old son were sent to bed and breakfast accomodation in another town. She has to leave this accomodation at 10am and is not allowed to return until later in the day. No cooking facilities, nothing. Nowhere to go in a town you don't even know. Its raining today, I wonder where they are sheltering?

How can Rochdale Council spare these flats when they can't even accomodate their own homeless in their home town?

If asylum seekers were given the right to work they would not need the 'freebies'.

Most migrants do not come here to 'scrounge' - the meagre benefits they recieve in UK (less than basic social security) give them a worse standard of living than they would have in their own country (where are all these poeple getting free mobile phones?). They come to work. Give people the opportunity to look after themselves and most will.

Millions of Brits work in other countries, from Nigeria to USA to Iraq. In many cases they do not pay tax to the host country. Brits leaving UK to work or live in other countries has been a major part of our history in the past 400 years.

Most the comments here seem to say it's ok for brits to work abroad but not for foreigners to work here.

Benefits would only be required for asylum seekers too psychologically or physically damaged to work (not many). A great part of our 'british way of life' is our tradition of helping people worse off than ourselves.

Of course we should look after our own first, but taking from the poor to give to the poor is stupid when there's lots of rich around. Opposite where I live in Kenton, Harrow is someone who arrived about three years ago moving into a semi detached house in a cul-de-sac. L.B. Brent Council pays around £1,300/month rent to another former seeker who buys one house after another, does them up and rents them to the council's in NW London.

The new arrival's house was totally restored, and furnished at our expense, yet within one week of supposedly arriving broke, he knocked on my door to offer to buy my then one ton VW van, for cash.

Within four or five weeks there were four untaxed, presumably uninsured cars and vans parked in the cul-de-sac so I asked him to move them away. Even reporting him to the council made no difference that he was openly working on cars whilst getting all manner of benefits.
The council replied and referred to him as "the claimant" and that as the vehicles supposedly belonged to, and were insured by his brother living elsewhere, they could do nothing.

The council tax on that house is £1,400/pa and who do you think pays it, not him.

He has even been importing Japanese cars directly to his freely supplied home address on transporters,and still the council and DWP claim to be unable to stop him.

He has now had two further kids so he has five, we pay for everything and he will not now be deported.

Why is he still considred a claimant when he parks a loaded recovery truck i the cul-de-sac, so has been working opnly. Untouchable, but why?

He has had a latest style BMW parked in the driveway for six months and it is slightly damaged, he is being paid to give secure storage and the council have done nothing at all, or the DWP.

Is it any wonder these people cross the world to get to the land of milk and honey? (For them.)

I'm proud to be British and to live in a country with a noble tradition of helping people, we've helped many immigrants but is the cost too high? There are some things we should think about.

We should censor the copies of NOW going to our brave boys in Iraq and Afghanisatn; I know our soldiers are well trained for security but if a copy was stolen and would be immigrants find out about our 'come and get it' country we could face a tsunami of scroungers.

Asylum seekers might work for minimum wage but at £5.52 that's too much for most British people to pay them to security guard a second home from the hordes of illegal immmigrants now roaming our country. Introduce an 'asylum seeker' wage, and get asylum seekers to gurad illegal immigrants at detention centres.

We've spent billions on sending our troops, bombs and bullets to Iraq and afghanistan to teach them the benefits of democracy and all we get is cheap oil (and not so cheap, at £1 a litre I can barely afford to run my 4x4) , it's only fair we get more in return for our generosity. Iraqi immigrants should bring sand with them, we need it for sand-bagging Gloucester and Sheffield.

We should only take democracy to countries, like USA, where the population is overweight. As soon as locals are educated enough to learn what they can scrounge here they'll be over - so asylum seekers can live off their body fat while looking for work.

Only accept immigrant women between the ages of 50 - 60. Young enough to be cleaners but too old to breed.

Only give them second hand ashtrays; with the smoking ban pubs must have loads of old ashtrays going cheap.

Genuine asylum seekers would be happy to be in a save country with just a roof over their heads and basic subsistence. They would not complain about being put in a detention centre or a refugee camp – they would just be thankful they are save!

Yes we should all care about each other, but would we be able to go to any country in the world and walk straight into housing,with financial benefits and get assistance to set it all up, I think not, the crime rate has become almost intolerable

there is considerable strain on our NHS and I feel that our own people are not being given any preference at all, I was recently divorced and as a consequence, I lost my home, my job and nearly my sanity

I became homeless and had to live with a relative, I was told that because I wasnt a vulnerable adult that I had to sort myself out.

We are all vulnerable at certain times in our life, I needed help and support desperatley and was rejected, were do the priorities of this goverment lie, I can of course take my skills and knowledge to another country, this is why we are loosing our trained professionals.

What is going to become of all of this and when will it end! I feel that there will come a time when the young people of this country will start a revolution, as they will be resentful because we have a very unfair system, and it does get me cross to think of all the years of hard work and taxes I paid are being squandered.

Does anybody really believe that a government department could get away with providing people, anyone with luxury apartments, cars and mobile phones.

What asylum seekers actually get is a £2 boots voucher for toiletries for themselves and family, accomodation in a detention centre where staff are free to plow through their personal possessions and searched for unallowed items such as makeup or toys, nor are they PERMITTED to work.

Even that is better than where they come from. Those who are granted asylum are sleeping in cars and are still the ones who are caring for our children, gutting the meat we buy in Tescos, picking the vegetables in the fields basically supporting our entire economy while British born children are getting pregnant, given houses and £20 000 in benefits each year.

British people have worked and paid tax and national insurence all their lives and yet their children can not get council or housing association housing without an exceptionally long wait.

Migrant workers come to this country without paying into the UK system and yet they are often given housing over our own people. This should stop, if migrants want to come and work here then they should have to find their own solution to housing and not rely on the state to provide for them.

I know this is a very tough area of discussion, simply because it is difficult for us to step back and look at the situation objectively.

The asylum seekers and immigrant workers need to be housed and given some sort of payment for their upkeep. This is easily understood. Now they do they do the jobs that most of us will not do for a wage that is below expectation but, they have no choice.

On the other hand the government should not be spending extra cash for this purpose, if they are housed in the same way the lower classes are housed. This entail them being housed by the council or housing association due to their circumstances and not rubbing taxpayers noses in it, this might be acceptable.

From a personal point of view, when I needed support from the government, being a mum of 4 and coming out of an abusive relationship with nothing. I was told my situation was not exceptional enough to warrant any help from the government.
My ex-husband who is an ex-serviceman was not worth anything, so I had to rely on £75 a week to buy food, pay bills and get furniture and bedding for myself and children. My flat, given to me by the council was of course unfurnished and undecorated. I was told I could get a grant of £250 but after I brought the receipts for the decorating materials.

I am now a nurse, on my wages I cannot afford a house so I have to remain in my council flat. I have never taken my children on holiday, not even in Britian because I cannot afford to. But I pay my taxes like a good little girl and watch the government splash out without just cause like this I really get upset.

I like most of my friends who are nurses am thinking about immigrating to USA as the pay is great for nurses there. The funny thing is I may be put in the same situation as the immigrants and assylum seekers here.

Once again this once great nation puts others before its own people. How sad to see our own people losing their housing, hospitals, and in some cases lives to these ungrateful people, aided by the treacherous left.

I do sympathise with the British people but however I would like to remind them about British colonial history.

I am an asylum seeker from Zimbabwe and I have been in this country since 2002. The reason I here is simple. Britain owes me the protection because it has played a part in the distabilisation of my country.

For almost one hundred years Britain looted our resources even up to now British multinational companies are milking my country its natural resources.

Basicaly each week when I get my allowance I get the satification of getting back the pension that my forefathers worked hard for.

I have a masters degree but I do not want to work because my forefathers have already done so.

I know one day I will return to Zimbabwe but for the time being I have to get what belongs to me because the shoe is now on the other foot.

It does not supprise me with this government! I have just mutal exhcange to Tilbury, where the 4 bed house I live in is falling down around me.

I am sure if I was from another country, rather then being British that Thurrock Council would have gutted the house before I set foot through the door.

Though instead they expect a single-divorced parent with 2 children to decorate both inside and out. In my parents day the house would have been painted and a gardener sent in.

I have served for my country in the RAF and I feel let down by the British Government (remember they are run by a Scot who hates the English), so I am not supprised that they let someon who earns £9K try to struggle and decorate

whilst those that emigrate here and are seeking asylum get to live in the lap of luxury. I was also told once, that the only way to get a house trhough the council was a) to become pregnant or b) be a asylum seeker

it just shows you that no work makes your a rich person in England, would this have happened in Scotland I dont think so.

My husband and myself have hit financial crisis through ill health and through no fault of our own are about to have our home repossesed

we have asked our local council for help with rehousing us and our four children and we have been told that we must wait to see if we have made ourselves intentionally homeless before they will even consider putting our names on the council

we have acourt order telling us we must leave our home in 2 wks. my husband recently has had to go on the sick while waiting for a back opperation, and finances are realy tight no landlord will even consider us as prospective tenants therefore we rely on the local council for there help.

surely all these asylum seekers and immigrants that have come into our country have made themselves intentionally homeless? but are given preference in rehousing than me and my husband who has worked hard for the last thirty yrs and paid taxes all there working life without claiming anything back from the goverment,

i have a 22 year old son who was left severly disabled through no fault of his at 14 now all he gets are benefits and as my husband and i both gave up work to look after him.

Money is tight if he needs special cutlery to eat he has to buy it himself at 16 pounds for just a knife fork and spoon plateguard and the list is endless why does he have to buy these things when we have always worked and paid into the system.

Ihad word on friday that my D.L.A has been stopped,at 57 years old and worked looking after people all my working life they say i am fit for work.

I suffer from many things that i wont bore everyone with but now i have no income at all untill my appeal is heard wich could take six weeks.

Now if i was an asylum seeker i would get everything and not done a days work to earn it.Carry on you GREAT BRITISH people working, Because unless you come from elsewere you will get nothing.
