Another Fine Mess

DON'T believe the lies.

Councils are pretending they need to introduce bin fines in order to promote recycling.

What a load of festering rubbish. In reality, these 'fines' are nothing more a cynical attempt to save cash by bullying residents into accepting fewer collections.

The cretins who run our town halls know these measures fly in the face of public opinion, but they don't give a damn.

They fail to understand that many residents will simply dump their rubbish on the streets rather than pay Draconian fines for services whcih we have already paid for through our council taxes.

The only way to fight back is through the ballot box. Refuse to vote for any local party in future that supports rubbish fines.

Clear plastic bags! It's a breach of our human rights having our personal rubbish on display. I thought the idea of recycling was suppost to be trendy and fun, not depressing and out of pocket. There is all of things our reycling centre want take for example plasic milk containers. These are the sort of things that take up room in the bin. whatever next!!

It's important to not just recyle, but to reduce waste. Leave excess supermarket packagin in the shop before you leave, then they will get the message.

Instead of having a bin tax, through the unfair council tax, so that everyone pays the same even if they don't recycle, we should have something fairer. People should pay for how much rubbish they produce and fail to recycle. Scrap the bin tax and pay as you throw!

The council that is proposeing to introduce see-thru bin bags should be
commended , the sooner that those people who think that we can keep
dumping unlimited amounts of rubbish into landfill sites wake up and do
something constructive the better it will be for everyone. Is anybody
suprised that the Tories have criisised the scheme , as they adopt
their usual bury your heads in the sand approach , and their proposed
solution would be laughable were the problem not so serious.

I find controlling the waste in my dustbin very hard, because when I put out my dustbin, if it is not very full, I find that other people with more rubbish then put their rubbish in my bin. I will not pay extra to the council for this. So I think the next step for the council is to put locks on our bins.

It seems to me that if you have a sensible Council like the one we have than there would NOT be any Stupid ideas being introduced
Reading about some of them in the country it is in keeping with this MUPPET Government we have
The plans laid out by our Council work very well
with NO problems

Your article in last Sunday's News of the World reminded me how once again local Councils never practice what they preach. North Shropshire District Council leaves its trade refuse at the public swimming pool Whitchurch in green plastic bags in the street over the whole weekend (and does so every week). I can bet though that any local resident doing that would get a lovely letter from them with an address to send the fine payment to. The Council can't say that aren't aware of it as I've complained to the Chief Executive of the Council before and they've just ignored it. It's obvious it's nothing to do with clean streets or saving the environment, it's all about them keeping their costs down and maximising their income.

Dear News of The World

I write in response to your article - page 47, October 14, 2007 regarding the hell that my local council is creating with regards to bins. The Wyre authority neighbours with mine.

We have had wheelie and re-cycle bins for approxiamtely 2months now, the responsible council being Lancaster City Council. I have made 100% effort to recycle and use them to their full potential.

The hell i have had is that still i have a common grey wheelie bin that should have been collected on Monday 7th October (fortnightly collection), i was away at that time so i left it out on the driveway near the kerbside. Coming home form holiday on Tuesday 8th October i was disgusted to find the bin not emptied and full with flies, maggots.
I reported this to Lancaster City Council on Wednesday 9th October - 09.15am, the refuge customer care department promised that the bin would be emptied by 6pm - Thursday 8th. The bin was left at the kerbside as instructed. Neighbours & friends on the estate where in the same position as me, they reported their non-collected rubbish Tuesday 8th and had it collected Thursday 9th!!! To do this the council had to pass my house!!

Prior to this most recent event i complained a number of weeks ago, because the bin men turned up - opened the plastic bottle recycle container, threw the lid across the garden and left the container still full. Not only mine but the majority of the containers on the estate received the same lack of attention! For obvious reasons i was very confused, what was in the container was absolutely right! At the time it was a very wet and windy day, the estate made like a shanti town, with plastic lids strewn across gardens, roads, not to mention plastic bottles now flying everywhere. Concerned i rang the council to ask that the bin men returned and did what they should have done. My question is why should we have to keep doing this. They did return that day - 2hours later but to no amazement just drove around the estate not doing the job they should have done. They did return the following morning and eventually emptied them.

Because of my human rights and the right to live in a safe clean environment i certainly feel the council are now victimising me personally, this because i have raised my concerns before. The story goes on ...

Friday am - 10th Oct, surprise, surprise, the bin had not been collected, the stench foul, certainly an environmental hazard. I again contacted the council at 09.15am on Friday, and this time I was advised it would be picked up by the end of that day.

Should the council not return, by the next collection date - 21.10.07, i will have no choice but to place additional bags next to the bin. My first concern is the likelihood of vermon being attracted to my house, the next concern - as highlighted in your article, will i be charged for the additional rubbish??
Are the council purposely leaving bins full so as to make people place extra rubbish out.

To my disgust but no amazement, no collection as yet been made, i will be making yet another call tomorrow morning. In addition to this i will also be calling on the local MP - Ben Wallace to sort this out immediately. Mr Wallace is also for the MP for the Wyre Constitution.

I would call on your support please. I would be willing for a reporter to contact me to provide further information / evidence for any publication.
Look forward to be hearing from you soon.

Regards
Lee Doyle

If british people actually separated their rubbish instead of just lumping everything in one bag there would not be so much rubbish, learn to recycle correctly and it can be made into a trip for shopping e.g. drop the bottles and cans and paper off and buy the shopping while you are there. Germans have been doing this for years and it works, and just in case you think this is another stab at brits I am a brit
