No Country For Old Men
His name is Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem), a professional hitman stalking Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin), a small-town war vet who's stumbled on a suitcase of money from a botched drug deal.
Chigurh wants Moss dead. And he's not afraid to kill a few others along the way either.
He dispatches villains and innocents alike using a jolly little murder kit which comprises a pneumatic cattle stunner and an enormous shotgun.
Normally without a flinch, and with the occasional lopsided, mirthless grin. Chigurh is one of the most downright disturbing movie villains for years.
And it's testament to Bardem's brilliance that he holds his own effortlessly against his fantastic co-stars Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones, who plays the local sheriff Ed Tom Bell.
He's at his very nastiest during a couple of near-silent scenes with Brolin, which are amongst the best things that the Coens have ever shot.
No Country For Old Men is a hands-down must-see. It's also the Coens' best shot at Oscar glory since Fargo, which picked up two in 1997.
So if it's not honoured next month, I'm picketing the Academy until there's a recount. Or sending Anton round with the kit.
