120garymegsonTrotters look set for another relegation scrap

HEAT BACK ON MEGSON

AFTER his Red Adair act last season, Gary Megson has everything to prove again.

An unpopular choice to replace Sammy Lee, Megson ended the protests of those calling for his dismissal by dousing the relegation fires.

Bolton are still getting to grips with the conflict between being ruthlessly effective but darn ugly.

Many of their fans crave a more attractive brand of football, but it’s been consistently shown only the direct, physical approach of Sam Allardyce will keep teams with limited resources out of trouble.

Sunderland signing El-Hadji Diouf has been replaced with Dutch winger Mustapha Rigafrom Levante in Spain.

Key

Other signings include Swedish forward Johan Elmander from Toulouse and England Under-21 star Fabrice Muamba from Birmingham.

Elmander cost £11million, breaking the club’s transfer record.

Guess what? He’s a tall, powerful, physical striker. The effective application of Bolton’s traditional strengths remains key to their success.

Despite a philosophy more in tune with Allardyce’s, it’s difficult to see anything but another season flirting with the bottom of the table.
