Crystal Palace: Manager looks good for play-offs
WARNOCK IS SMILES BETTER
By AIDAN MAGEE
NEIL WARNOCK is happier in London than he ever thought he would be.
The Yorkshiremen spent 20 years of managerial career living up to the flat-cap stereotype by moaning about everything in the capital from traffic problems to exorbitant house prices.
Now he enjoys taking his family to places like London Zoo and he can even go to the supermarket without being abused by Sheffield Wednesday fans.
And few could have predicted that the unlikely match of Warnock and Crystal Palace would come so close to propelling the Eagles into the Premier League last season
Addition
Only a play-off semi-final defeat against Bristol City denied Warnock a seventh promotion triumph of a career that has seen him tour the northern delights of Scarborough, Huddersfield, Bury and Sheffield United.
Warnock will be relying on young talent like Victor Moses and Sean Scannell to continue their progress.
But his key addition might prove to be Australian midfielder Nick Carle (right).
The £1m signing from Bristol City starred against Palace in last season’s play-offs and his energy and guile convinced Warnock to bring him in.
Midfielder Neil Danns will also be expected to play a bigger part after arriving from Birmingham in January.
Chairman Simon Jordan, who says this will be his last season in football, will be mindful that a Premier League club will be more attractive to potential buyers than one in the Championship.
KEY PLAYER: Nick Carle
SCORE PREDICTION: 5th.
