IT'S NO FUN FOR BROWN

HULL CITY go into their difficult debut season at top level backed by considerable weight of John Prescott.

The chunky local MP — recognised as one of the least successful bulimics in history — is right behind them.

But maybe they would prefer a different celebrity fan given the choice, what with the former deputy PM a bit of a figure of fun . . . though maybe the Tigers are currently being regarded in much the same way.

So, is this another Derby disaster in the making? County, like Hull, were promoted through the play-offs and last season registered one Premier League win, and a record low 11 points.

Survive

Well, a 4-0 pre-season defeat at Crewe might suggest there is an obvious answer to that question. Just staying in the Premier League would be a miracle.

To survive, manager Phil Brown could do with a striker like Kevin Phillips, 30 League goals for Peter Reid’s Sunderland when they were promoted, or Marcus Stewart, 19, for Ipswich when they went up to finish fifth.

However, City have signed forwards Peter Halmosi and Craig Fagan but they are not proven at the top-level and the goals will not flow.

KEY TRANSFERS
