England defender Jonathan Woodgate capped a remarkable Tottenham fightback with an extra-time winner over Chelsea in the Carling Cup final at Wembley today.

A first-half goal from Didier Drogba, his 10th of the season, put Chelsea on the brink of a second successive Carling Cup triumph but a second-half penalty from Dimitar Berbatov sent the game into extra-time.

Not since November 1999 and through 21 previous encounters had Spurs fans been able to laud it over the Gunners.

IT LOOKED to have been a game too far for the young Gunners as a determined Spurs team were good value for their half-time lead through Jermaine Jenas, and looked set to be the first away team to win at the Emirates in 21 matches.

Yet following the introduction of in-form Croatian striker Eduardo and regular full-back Bacary Sagna, Arsenal eventually found another gear.

PIT pint-sized Shaun Wright-Phillips against comparitive giant Joleon Lescott in a battle for the high ball, and the odds should favour the bigger man.

But last night the expected outcome was not to be.

Some - including Everton boss David Moyes - accused 5ft 5in Wright-Phillips of holding 6ft 2in Lescott down as the two leapt at a hopeful overhead kick from Chelsea's Michael Ballack.

ScorelinecarlingchelseaxLIVERPOOL and England striker Peter Crouch saw red as Chelsea progressed to the semi-finals of the Carling Cup thanks to second-half strikes from Frank Lampard and Andriy Shevchenko.

Lampard's deflected 59th minute opener was followed, seconds later, by a moment of madness from Crouch who was red-carded for a disgraceful two-footed lunge on Mikel John Obi.

ARSENE Wenger's young guns are on the march again after Croatia striker Eduardo claimed an extra-time winner to book 10-man Arsenal's Carling Cup semi-final spot at Blackburn's expense.

Wenger, typically, handed opportunities to a whole team of young fringe players and his bold selection reaped rich rewards again when Abou Diaby and Eduardo put the Gunners 2-0 ahead after 29 minutes.
