SVEN'S FINAL HUMILIATION

SVEN-GORAN ERIKSSON'S anticipated final match in charge of Manchester City ended in humiliating fashion as his 10-man side lost 8-1 at Middlesbrough.

The former England boss has guided the club to ninth in the Barclays Premier League and a likely place in the UEFA Cup via the Fair Play League but that does not appear enough to save his job.

Like last year, it was rather too close for comfort but at least there was little doubt about the outcome yesterday with Pompey dreaming of Wembley.

ROY KEANE made it two out of two as a novice manager after Sunderland dramatically dragged themselves to Premier League safety in the 92nd minute of a pulsating derby.

Keane led the Black Cats to promotion in his first season and this victory means they will be in the Premier League again.

JUST when you thought it was safe… Gavin McCann made it two wins in a row for brave Bolton to drag Boro back into deep water.

Bolton, who began the day in the drop zone, climbed to fifth bottom. They are now just four points behind Boro, who have won only once in the last nine League games — against relegated Derby.

Gareth Southgate's team should have put yesterday's points in the bank in the first 10 minutes. But thanks to keeper Ali Al-Habsi, Bolton survived a torrid test.
