GARETH'S GOODBYE GOAL

500westhamastonvilla

ASTON Villa's last-ditch push to secure a UEFA Cup place ended in failure as they concluded their season with a draw at Upton Park.

Skipper Gareth Barry appeared to have fired a second-half winner when he expertly finished a move he started but Hammers striker Dean Ashton struck a late equaliser to earn his side a point they scarcely deserved.

FERGIE'S TITLE TOAST

ANDY DUNN at Old Trafford

AT LEAST they didn't hug, kiss or high-five. Just a half-embarrassed hand-shake and minimal eye contact.

KEV'S SO LUCKY

GEOFF SWEET at Upton Park

KEVIN KEEGAN is not only a good manager — he is also proving to be a lucky one.

Keegan's Toon side came back from 2-0 down thanks to a real break for Geremi's equaliser.

DIABOLIC-AL

GEOFF SWEET at Upton Park

FICKLE Hammers fans laid into Alan Curbishley.

They booed his substitutions, and booed their team off before trudging home with heads bowed.

Curbs was treated to a loud rendition of "You don't know what you're doing" and everyone seemed against him even though Carlton Cole scored the winner two minutes after coming on.

FIGHTING SPIRIT

GARY MEGSON insisted Bolton will not go down without a fight.

It's doubtful he meant with each other, but it did the trick yesterday on and off the pitch.

Around 200 fans held a demo before kick-off. "Eight years to build, eight months to destroy. Mugson and Gartside out," read one banner.
