WE'LL GET A McMASTER CLASS FROM FERGIE

By John McGarry

THIRTY years ago this summer Alex Ferguson walked into Pittodrie as a promising young manager.

Eight years later he left for Old Trafford having destroyed the old order of Scottish football — intent on making Manchester United the biggest club in the world.

STRIKER WILL HAVE THE LAST LAFF

Kyle_lafferty_2

By John McGarry

LAWRIE SANCHEZ has insisted Rangers fans will have to wait at least a year for Kyle Lafferty to make an impact in the SPL.

Sanchez handed the striker his Northern Ireland debut against Romania two years ago before trying to sign him for Fulham last summer. Burnley’s £6million price tag proved too steep, though.

Scott: Dons can show what they are made of

A TOUCH OF GRANITE

By Graeme Bryce

SCOTT BOOTH has called on Jimmy Calderwood to build his new-look Aberdeen in the image of the city — and add a touch of GRANITE to the Dons.

The former Dons striker reckons his old club showed what they were capable of last season, particularly at Pittodrie where they destroyed Rangers and Copenhagen and gave Bayern Munich the fright of their lives.

However, the Setanta TV pundit reckons the Dons’ soft centre kept coming back to haunt them, especially in the semi-finals of both the CIS and Scottish Cups.

Lenny in booking warning to Celt

I’VE SCOTT MY EYE ON YOU

By Kenny MacDonald

NEIL LENNON is expecting big things next season from Celtic’s misfit midfield duo Scott Brown and Massimo Donati.

The big-money signings ended up out of the first team but the Parkhead coach wants them back in the frame when the champions defend their SPL title.

Lenny said: “Scott, below, got himself suspended and that’s something we have to look at. He has to cut out the bit of rashness there is in his game, because silly bookings ultimately cost him his place in the team in the run-in.

Steven: Kenny can save Walt his job

MILLER’S A MUST

By Graeme Bryce

RANGERS legend Trevor Steven has told Walter Smith to stick his Kenny Miller . . . in his TEAM!
Because his position as manager could be on the line if he doesn’t!

Incredible though it seems — after last season’s cup double and Rangers’ first Euro final in 36 years — Steven says the Ibrox great will still feel the heat if he fails to win the title this time out.

That’s why he can’t afford to gamble on foreign imports like Daniel Cousin this summer.

Coach backs Gretna tycoon

BROOKS WAS GRET FOR THE CLUB

By Kenny MacDonald

ANDY SMITH has launched a vigorous defence of Brooks Mileson claiming: “Gretna would have been nothing without him!”

The former Raydale Park coach is “sickened” by the wave of anger aimed at the tycoon who bankrolled the club’s roller-coaster ride which ended in disaster.

Although Smith was one of the club’s staff sacked last month he leapt to the defence of ailing Mileson as the club folded this week.

Burley's pass marks

Czech Republic 3 Scotland 1

Burley

By Kenny MacDonald

SCOTLAND will be even more of a passing team under George Burley — that was the message as the new coach’s team takes shape after two friendlies.

Burley was clearly seen on the sidelines during Friday’s defeat urging Craig Gordon and his defenders to play the ball on the deck.

DARREN FLETCHER perspired in Prague — and now he’s preparing to suffer in Skopje!

Scotland used Friday’s friendly against the Czech Republic as a warm-up for the opening World Cup tie against Macedonia in September — in every sense of the word.

Temperatures in the Balkan state could reach 40C — but the Manchester United man admitted he’s NEVER played in heat like he and his team-mates experienced in the AXA Arena.
