Off the streets by 2012

A RADICAL bid to WIPE OUT homelessness in two years is today unveiled by the Government — including a “tough love” plan to forcibly DEPORT migrants who sleep rough.

The drive to rescue desperate Brits living on our streets comes amid claims of a shameful “cover up” over the scale of the problem.

Official figures claimed there are just 440 rough sleepers in England — yet new estimates suggest the true number is THREE TIMES higher at 1,300.

Housing Minister Grant Shapps accuses Labour of “deliberate under counting” to hide the problem.

“It makes a mockery of the plight of thousands,” he said. Mr Grant is determined nobody will sleep rough by 2012. Tomorrow he’ll announce his ambitious plans to achieve this target.
A HOMELESS dad and son spent eight years living in a GRAVEYARD before going into a hostel.

Brian Munro, 62, and son Kevin 42, are both in wheelchairs after 17 years of alcohol abuse.

They long to share a home but Londoner Kevin said: “I don’t think we’ll ever get that, it’s a dream. People treat us homeless like lepers.

“Still, as long as we’re together we’ll be okay.”
